District 15 holds all-staff event Aug. 12

District 15 administration welcomed back our staff today to kick-off the 2019-20 school year with an all-staff event held at Harper College.

Board President Lisa Szczupaj started the morning by welcoming the group, followed by a keynote speech from DeEtta Jones on diversity and inclusion.

DeEtta is a widely sought-after thought leader on issues ranging from social justice to everyday practices for nurturing a healthy organizational culture. Her presentation centered on equity and cultural responsiveness in schools.

The event concluded with remarks from Superintendent Dr. Laurie Heinz and her cabinet team on the focus and direction of the district into the future. The team's thematic goal of the year is inspiring confidence, with a focus on re-launching the strategic plan, taking a deeper look at facility needs and engaging all stakeholders.

Certified staff will participate in two days of professional development before welcoming students back on Wednesday, Aug 14 (grades 1-8) and Thursday, Aug. 15 (preschool and kindergarten).
