Kindergarten is a special time when children are introduced to new learning experiences, friendships, and environments. We are excited to have your child start their journey here in Community Consolidated School District 15. This booklet will answer general questions regarding kindergarten programs offered, enrollment requirements, how to register your child for school, important dates, and links to additional information to start your journey. We look forward to getting to know your child and watching them learn and explore. Welcome to CCSD15!

Kindergarten Programs Offered

Full-Day Kindergarten

CCSD15’s Kindergarten program is a full-day model. Students will be fully educated according to CCSD15’s traditional core curriculum and programming, preparing children for first grade and beyond. Our full-day program provides time for math and literacy instruction, time for free and purposeful play, and time to build self esteem, independence, friendships, and trusting relationships with teachers.

District 15 encourages enrollment in full-day kindergarten for all students. For half-day programming, please reach out to your elementary school principal to discuss possible options.

Kindergarten Welcome Nights

Parents are encouraged to attend a Kindergarten Registration/Information Welcome Night at their child’s school:

One-Way (Spanish) Dual Language

A group of young students, both boys and girls, sitting on the floor in a classroom setting, with various educational materials and posters visible in the background.

CCSD15 offers a full-day One-Way (Spanish) Dual Language program for students who are native Spanish speakers and who qualify for language support services. Eligibility is determined via an English proficiency screening.

Students in kindergarten receive 80 percent of their instruction in Spanish and 20 percent of their instruction in English by a certified instructor. For each subsequent year, the percentage of instruction in Spanish is decreased by 10 percent. By third grade, instruction in the two languages is balanced at 50 percent Spanish and 50 percent English.

This program is held at:

  • Gray M. Sanborn
  • Kimball Hill
  • Lake Louise
  • Lincoln
  • Virginia Lake
  • Willow Bend

The Two-Way (Spanish) Dual Language Program is an optional full-day kindergarten program housed at Jane Addams, Kimball Hill, and Winston Campus Elementary Schools.

Students are taught literacy and curriculum in both Spanish and English beginning in kindergarten and continuing through the completion of fifth grade. The goal of the Dual Language program is to develop bilingualism, biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross-cultural competencies for students.

Half of the students are native Spanish speakers and half speak English or another language. Students in kindergarten receive 80 percent of their instruction in Spanish and 20 percent of their instruction in English by a certified instructor. For each subsequent year, the percentage of instruction in Spanish is decreased by 10 percent. By third-grade, instruction in the two languages is balanced at 50 percent Spanish and 50 percent English.

How to Enroll Your Child in Kindergarten

To enroll your child in District 15, complete Steps 1-5 on the Registration webpage by July 15 to receive a classroom assignment. It is very important for families to register as early as possible. The district uses our enrollment numbers to determine staffing at each of our schools.

STEP 1: Determine Eligibility

To enroll in a District 15 school, students must be legal residents of District 15. Proof of residency is required. Use the Map My School Tool to locate your assigned school.

To be eligible to attend kindergarten, children must turn 5 years old on or before September 1 of the year of enrollment to attend Kindergarten.

STEP 2: Complete Online Registration

Student registration begins February 10, 2026, for the 2026-27 school year. All families will need to register their child(ren) for the 2026-27 school year no later than July 15, 2026, for a student to receive a classroom assignment.

Please visit the Registration page for step-by-step guides, information, deadlines, tutorials, and links to additional information and assistance to register your child.

STEP 3: Provide Required Documentation to the School

To complete Kindergarten registration, bring these items to your child’s school during regular school office hours to complete the registration process:

1. Certified Birth Certificate

Children who are residents of District 15 and turn 5 years old on or before September 1 of the year of enrollment are eligible to attend Kindergarten.

Please bring a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate (with seal) or other government document verifying date of birth. An official certificate of every birth should be on file in the locality where the event occurred. These records are filed permanently in a State vital statistics office or in a city, county, or other local office.

To obtain a certified copy of a birth certificate, write or go to the vital statistics office in the State or area where the event occurred, or visit the National Center for Health Statistics (www.cdc.gov/nchs/w2w/index.htm) for information on where to obtain an official birth certificate.

2. Proof of Residency

The image shows several young children, likely students, engaged in an activity or lesson in what appears to be a classroom setting. The background features shelves filled with various educational materials and toys, suggesting an educational environment.

Residency (proof of living situation) in District 15 is required for all incoming Early Childhood students, Kindergarten students, students new to the District, existing families with a lease, and families that are flagged by our third-party residency verification system to complete the registration process.

Providing a copy of a current mortgage or lease is a required step when registering in District 15.

For the 2026-27 school year, in the case of a lease, please note that if the copy of the lease provided expires before August 19, 2026, the family will need to provide an UPDATED lease prior to the start of the school year to remain enrolled for the 2026-27 school year. The lease needs to show that the family lives in District 15’s boundaries at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

3. Health Information

Health, immunization, dental, and eye exams are required for students entering preschool or kindergarten, sixth-grade, and for students who are new to District 15.

  • Health exam dated within one year of school entry. The Certificate of Child Health Examination form is available online and in the school office. Please submit early to assure your child has met the health requirements and any health issues are planned for in advance of school entry. Submit completed health exams to the home school before the start of school. We accept proof of appointment for those unable to complete the examination prior to the first day of school.

  • Dental exam dated within 18 months of school entry. The IDPH Dental Examination form is available online and in the school office.

  • Eye exam dated within one year of school entry. The State of Illinois Eye Examination Report is available online and in the school office.

  • Immunization records. We accept vaccine documents at any time upon registration. Please submit early to assure your child has met the State of IL vaccine requirements. The month/day/year and correct number of doses at the correct intervals must be verified by a health care provider. This is due before school starts.

It is recommended that families keep a copy of their child’s health examination and immunizations for their records.

Parents or guardians who object to examination(s) or immunization(s) on religious grounds are not required to submit their child or wards to either, and must provide a completed Illinois Certificate of Religious Exemption form signed by the health care provider. Please visit Health, immunization, dental, and eye exams for more information.

Per School Board Policy 7:100, Health, Eye, and Dental Examinations, Immunizations, and Exclusion of Students—Students who are not in compliance with IL student health requirements may be excluded.

4. Home Language Survey

A Home Language Survey is administered to all students newly registering in the district to help us determine if your child is eligible for language support services. Families will be provided with the Home Language Survey in their spoken language.

5. Transfer Form

If applicable, a student transfer form from the previous school attended.

STEP 4: Determine Kindergarten Program

Determine which Kindergarten program is right for your child—Full-day Kindergarten, Half-day Kindergarten, Two-Way Spanish Dual Language Program, or One-Way Spanish Dual Language (for native Spanish speakers).

STEP 5: Pay Student Fees

Kindergarten fees are $185 per student for the 2026-27 school year. Fees are payable at the time of online registration. Please visit Student Fees for payment and fee waiver information.

Congratulations—your child is enrolled! What should you do next?

Once your child is enrolled, and the school has accepted your registration, new families will receive information on how to set up their PowerSchool parent portal account. PowerSchool allows you to view your child’s class schedule, assignments, attendance, grades, fees that are due, and more!
