Health Services

School Health Services, provided by registered school nurses at each school, support students through prompt and professional response to health concerns and medical issues.

The school nurse not only responds to illnesses, accidents or medical emergencies but may also provide regular care to students as outlined in an IEP or 504 Plan. Additionally, school nurses conduct vision and hearing screenings, manage student health records, and collaborate with school staff to promote learning through student health and wellness.

District 15 School Health Services team includes at least one registered nurse in every school and two certified school nurses (CSN).

School Health Services believes student education and growth are related to their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Having access to nursing care positively impacts student attendance.

A registered nurse in every school and health coordinators who are certified school nurses supporting the special education process are at school every day, allowing for prompt and professional responses to health concerns and medical issues. Healthcare provided in the school health office supports students and allows them to identify students who have become ill during the school day and when to return students to their classrooms, resulting in increased access to education.

The nurse is available to work in collaboration with your child's primary healthcare provider. In the event of illness or accidents, the nurse provides emergency care.

Responsibilities of the nurse include first aid and illness care, the maintenance of student health records, the development of healthcare plans, and screenings for student vision and hearing needs. Parents/guardians are encouraged to bring questions about immunizations, health exams, medication, or student health needs to the nurse.
