Student Services & Related Services

preschool kids

The Student Services & Related Services Department coordinates supportive services for three-year-old through eighth-grade students with disabilities and specialized learning needs, identified through either evaluation and/or eligibility procedures.

The Student Services Department currently provides special education programs and services for children in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Illinois Administrative Code. Special Education programs serve students with academic, communication, cognitive and physical disabilities as well as autism spectrum disorders, social/emotional/behavioral disorders, health impairments, and visual or hearing disabilities. Section 504 Plans are developed for students with disabilities, including health conditions, which require accommodations within the school environment.

These students may access supports and services in school, including:

  • Early Childhood-Preschool
  • Special Education Programs/Disability Services
    • Individualized Education Programs (IEP)
    • Section 504 Plans
    • Special Olympics
  • Health Services
  • Supports for students in foster care placements
  • McKinney-Vento supports for students experiencing homelessness
  • Student Records Management

Student Health Services

School Health Services believes student education and growth are related to their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Having access to nursing care positively impacts student attendance.

Healthcare provided in the school health office supports students and allows them to identify students who have become ill during the school day and when to return students to their classrooms, resulting in increased access to education. District 15 School Health Services team includes at least one registered nurse in every school, certified school nurses (CSN), and health coordinators. Certified school nurses support the special education process in schools every day, allowing for prompt and professional responses to health concerns and medical issues.
