Arrival/Departure Procedures
We have two locations that students enter the building on a daily basis. Car riders enter through Door 8 on the side of the school facing Wood Street. Mrs. Johansen and/or a Program Assistant are stationed there as supervisors. Walkers or bus riders will enter through Door 1 at the front of the school. Mrs. Watson, our Assistant Principal, is always stationed at the front as a supervisor.
All student who
ride the school bus home from school will exit the school Door 1 to board their buses. Our classroom teachers walk their classes to their designated bus and ensure that all students board the correct bus each day. Student who are walking home will dismiss out Door 1, as well. They are to walk along the sidewalk to their destinations. If they rode a bicycle to school, they must walk their bike when on school property. Once they have left school property, they can resume riding their bicycle home. Students who are car riders should go to Door 8 for parent pick-up. This is where we have staff available to supervise their dismissal and safe entrance to their car. We have heard from the Palatine Park District that students are not using the designated cross walk areas on Wood Street. There have been a few noted issues of kids dodging moving cars to go to their family's car. We appreciate your help keeping our kids safe by following these guidelines. -

Health Forms
For the purpose of safeguarding the health of children, District 15 enforces Illinois student health requirements. These requirements consist of health, dental, and eye exams and immunizations specific to grade and age.
Health exams are required for students entering preschool, kindergarten, sixth grade, and those who are new to the school. The Certificate of Child Health Examination form is available online and in the school office.
The exam form, completed and signed by a licensed healthcare provider, must be dated within one year prior to the first day of school and must include lead screening for children who are six years or younger and diabetes screening.
Health forms can be brought to the school office at any time.
On October 15, students who have not provided a health exam or required immunizations will be excluded from school. Students new to Illinois schools, who register midterm, have 30 days following registration to comply with the health requirements.
For more information on specific health forms needed, visit the Health Services website.

About the Sanborn PTA
The Sanborn PTA does so much for our students and families and school each year! Please read on to learn more about all the fun activities and events the PTA not only plans, but financially supports. That’s one of the reasons why joining PTA is so important (the cost is $10 per parent for the entire year) – so we can continue to provide these opportunities for you and your child/children. Please join the PTA and get more involved in our Sanborn community! Our yearly events include:
- Kindergarten Round-Up: the Sanborn PTA President and Sanborn Principal provide an overview of incoming parents of kindergartners.
- Kindy Play Date: Our youngest students have the chance to practice boarding a school bus and meeting one another before school starts.
- Back to School Picnic: The entire student body and families are invited to kick of the school year on the Friday of the first week of school!
- Room Parents: Parents can help out at the Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties – just two parties during the year!
- Walk-a-Thon: All students participate during school in early fall and get family/friends to sponsor them – this is Sanborn’s only yearly fundraiser.
- Fall Fest: In late October, kids and families enjoy Halloween fun - including games, prizes, costumes, food, snacks, and more!
- Holiday Breakfast/Secret Shop: In early December, the gym is filled with nominally priced gifts students can shop – to buy presents for family and friends. We provide gift wrapping too! A breakfast is also provided during this event for all to enjoy.
- Books Fairs: Students LOVE to shop for books during our book fairs, which occur in the fall and spring.
- Ice Cream Social: What else can we say—there’s ice cream for everyone!
- Multi-Cultural Night: 5th and 6th graders host a table to feature different cultures on this spring night, and the PTA – along with families – provide a wide range of ethnic foods to try!
- Bingo: What else can we say, it’s BINGO!
- Bike to School Day: Co-sponsored with the Bike Palatine Club, we invite all kids to bike to school and enter raffles to win prizes near the end of the school year! For those who don’t live in the downtown, families in the area will provide meetups so all can participate!
Consider volunteering for PTA—even if it’s just an hour of your time!! You can meet other parents—make new friends and learn more about what’s happening at Sanborn at our monthly meetings (first Tuesday at 7pm in the library). Join us and help to create lasting memories for our kids and families. Email preselect@sanbornpta.org for more information!
