Carl Sandburg Middle School 7-8th Grade Concert Staff

Carl Sandburg Middle School 7-8th Grade Concert Staff

March 2026

We are pleased to present this month’s Above and Beyond Staff Recognition honoring a group of District 15 staff members whose collective actions exemplify collaboration, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to students and colleagues.

This recognition highlights an extraordinary team effort that took place during the 7-8th grade concert at Carl Sandburg Middle School. When a teacher experienced an urgent family need, colleagues from across the district immediately stepped in to ensure the event could continue smoothly and that students were fully supported. Their willingness to act quickly and selflessly reflects the very best of District 15.

The staff members being recognized include:

  • Emily Frazier–Band Teacher, Lincoln Elementary School
  • TJ Mitchell–Band Teacher, Plum Grove Middle School
  • Elias Photopoulos–Comprehensive Music Teacher, Carl Sandburg Middle School
  • Dave Wilkie–Band Teacher, Thomas Jefferson Middle School
  • Colleen Martinez–Orchestra Teacher, Carl Sandburg Middle School
  • Julie Kurka–Band Teacher, Carl Sandburg Middle School
  • Alex Kaempen–District 15 Substitute Teacher
  • Emilie Cheng–World Language Teacher, Carl Sandburg Middle School
  • Erika Johansen–Principal, Carl Sandburg Middle School

Together, these individuals stepped in to direct, rehearse, perform, provide classroom coverage, document the event, and offer leadership and encouragement during a challenging moment. Their coordinated efforts ensured that students, families, and staff experienced a positive, meaningful event despite unforeseen circumstances. This collective response demonstrates the strength of our district community and the culture of care that exists across schools and roles. By putting students first and supporting one another when it mattered most, this team went truly Above and Beyond.

Please join us in recognizing and congratulating these staff members for their exceptional teamwork, professionalism, and compassion.
