Laurie Olson, Carl Sandburg Middle School

It is with great pride that we recognize Laurie Olson, Reading Specialist at Carl Sandburg Middle School (CSMS), as a February 2025Above and Beyond honoree. Laurie’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to student success extend far beyond the walls of the classroom. Her passion for literacy, mentorship, and student growth makes her an invaluable member of the CSMS community.

Laurie is more than just a Reading Specialist—she is a true leader within the building. In addition to her primary role, she serves as a coach for three sports and plays a key role in supporting the school’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) teams. Her efforts in these areas have helped establish clear and effective systems to ensure students receive the academic and behavioral support they need throughout their middle school journey.

Her creative problem-solving and student-centered mindset are evident in every aspect of her work. Whether she is helping struggling readers build confidence, coaching athletes on the court, or brainstorming strategies with colleagues to support students, Laurie’s dedication to student success is unwavering. She is a trusted voice among staff, and her colleagues frequently seek out her ideas and guidance when working to improve student outcomes.

Laurie’s impact extends beyond instruction—she fosters an environment where students feel valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. Her ability to connect with students in multiple capacities, whether through academics or athletics, makes her an influential role model and mentor.

For her relentless dedication, leadership, and commitment to supporting students and staff, we are proud to recognize Laurie Olson as this month’s Above and Beyond honoree.
