Kathryn Ferry, Winston Campus MS

It is with great pride that we recognize Kathryn Ferry, an itinerant teacher at Winston Campus Middle School (WCMS), as a January 2025 Above and Beyond honoree. Kathy’s dedication, positivity, and willingness to step into challenging roles exemplify what it means to go Above and Beyond in service to our students, staff, and community.

Kathy joined WCMS anticipating a standard itinerant teacher role. However, due to unforeseen staffing needs, she was asked to teach dual language science and co-teach an additional three sections of science—areas outside her initial expertise. Rather than hesitating, Kathy embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm, ensuring our students continued to receive high-quality instruction. Her adaptability and commitment to our students’ success have not gone unnoticed.

Beyond the classroom, Kathy has become a cornerstone of the Winston Campus community. She is a regular presence at after-school events and community gatherings, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her warm, cheerful demeanor is infectious—colleagues describe her as someone whose positivity uplifts everyone around her. On difficult days, Kathy is the person staff members seek out to find a moment of joy and encouragement.

Kathy’s impact on WCMS goes far beyond her instructional duties. She has contributed meaningfully to fostering a supportive and inclusive school culture, demonstrating care and compassion in every interaction. Her dedication to our students and staff is unwavering, and her willingness to go above and beyond in all aspects of her role speaks to her character and commitment to making a difference.
