Isma Malagon, Central Road School

It is with great pride that we recognize Ismael (Isma) Malagon, Head Custodian at Central Road School, as this month’s Above and Beyond honoree. Isma’s dedication, work ethic, and positive spirit has had an incredible impact on the entire school community. His efforts go far beyond keeping the building clean and well-maintained—he is a constant source of support, kindness, and problem-solving for staff and students alike.

Isma plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of CR, especially in managing the daily challenges that arise in a building with Full-Day Kindergarten. From quickly handling unexpected messes to ensuring a safe, welcoming environment, his efforts never go unnoticed.

His commitment to safety is particularly evident during inclement weather. On snowy or icy days, Isma goes above and beyond, and arrives early—often before his scheduled start time—to clear sidewalks and ensure safe conditions for students and staff. His proactive approach and attention to detail help prevent accidents and keep our school community safe.

Beyond his technical responsibilities, Isma is known for his warm personality. He greets every staff member with a smile, responds quickly to any concerns, and consistently goes out of his way to lend a helping hand. His willingness to pause his work to support students and brainstorm solutions with staff speaks volumes about his dedication to the Central Road community.

Isma has become a role model for many students. His approachable nature and friendly interactions make him a trusted presence in the school. In fact, some students choose to spend their reward time helping him with cleaning tasks and projects, a testament to the respect and admiration he has earned from those around him.
