Angie Vasey, Plum Grove Middle School

Angie Vasey, Plum Grove Middle School

October 2025

It is an honor to recognize Angie Vasey for going Above and Beyond through her exceptional contributions in innovation, leadership, and collaboration within District 15’s STEM department.

As a STEM teacher at Plum Grove Middle School, Angie teaches 6th Grade Computer Science, 6th Grade Design and Modeling, and the newly launched 7th Grade App Creators course. This year’s addition of the App Creators class required significant updates to the 6th Grade Computer Science curriculum to ensure a seamless skill progression.

Angie immediately stepped up, leading the STEM team in revising the curriculum and ensuring a smooth transition for students. Her dedication to professional growth and innovation is remarkable. She proactively attended multiple trainings last year, including “Advanced Coding for Real-World Problem Solving” and “Cracking the Code: From Icons to Word Blocks!” to deepen her expertise.

Over the summer, Angie was accepted into the Computer Science Professional Development Week in Springfield, hosted by the Learning Technology Center, where she collaborated with educators across Illinois and gained invaluable insights that have since strengthened our district’s computer science offerings. Upon returning, she shared her knowledge with the STEM team and worked to integrate these learnings into our updated curriculum.

In addition, Angie has played a vital role in maximizing the impact of new educational tools. After District 15 received Spheros robots through the Illinois Computer Science Equity Grant, she took the lead in embedding them into the 6th Grade Computer Science curriculum. Her work has provided students with engaging, hands-on opportunities to bring coding and problem-solving to life.

Through her leadership, innovation, and collaboration, Angie Vasey has been instrumental in advancing our district’s STEM programming. She is a true asset to Plum Grove and to District 15, and we are proud to celebrate her dedication to preparing students to #AimHighAchieveHigher, as she does everyday.
