In our continued effort to move District 15 forward, enhance learning environments, and expand opportunities for all students, the 2024 Summative Designations from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) serve as a powerful reminder of the progress we are making. We proudly educate over 11,000 uniquely academically, culturally, and socio-economically diverse students. The growth we see in student outcomes reflects our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and ensuring every student has the support they need to thrive. We truly believe that all students can and will succeed as a result of a District 15 education.
Every October, each school receives an Illinois Report Card, which includes a Summative Designation based on school performance across key academic and student success indicators. These designations, determined by overall accountability data and specific student group metrics, rank schools into one of four categories: Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted, or Comprehensive, reflecting different levels of performance and support needs.
In 2024, District 15 schools excelled once again, with all schools either maintaining or improving their Summative Designations. Most notably, Hunting Ridge Elementary School and Marion Jordan Elementary School were awarded the Exemplary designation, placing them in the top 10% of schools in Illinois. This prestigious recognition reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and families in fostering both academic growth and a culture of excellence.
All other District 15 schools earned the Commendable designation, affirming that our schools are consistently meeting or exceeding the state’s performance benchmarks. We are particularly proud of the significant progress made in our English Learners (EL) program as well as in English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency, Math growth, Science proficiency, and student attendance.
Superintendent Dr. Laurie Heinz praised the district's results, stating, “These designations highlight the exceptional work our teachers, students, and families put in every day. We are fully committed to student growth and success, and these results affirm that we are moving District 15 in the right direction.”
Highlights of the 2024 Summative Designations:
- Hunting Ridge Elementary School and Marion Jordan Elementary School received the highest rating or an Exemplary designation.
- All other District 15 schools earned the next highest rating or a Commendable designation.
- As noted above, notable growth was achieved in EL proficiency, student attendance, ELA proficiency, Math growth, and Science proficiency.
- Mathematics proficiency continues to surpass state averages.
As we celebrate these accomplishments, we remain committed to monitoring and improving student performance, supported by a comprehensive strategic plan that focuses on academic excellence, engagement and student well-being, ensuring that we meet the needs of all learners.
