02-12-2024 — Free Developmental Screenings
Free Developmental Screenings for children age birth to 33 months
- Do you have a child under 3 years of age?
- Do you have questions or concerns about their development?
Free developmental screenings for children ages birth to 33 months old are offered to families who live in District 15 through the District's Early Intervention Program.
The D15 Early Intervention Program offers playgroups and assessments for children turning three years of age who may display developmental delays or may be at risk for learning problems. The program encourages parents to be active participants during the assessment process.
A nurse, social worker, psychologist, and speech pathologist work closely with families to ensure a positive and comfortable transition into early childhood services.
Screenings are held at the John G. Conyers Learning Academy, 2800 Central Road in Rolling Meadows.

El Programa de Intervención Temprana ofrece grupos de juego y evaluaciones para los niños que cumplen tres años y que pueden mostrar demoras en el desarrollo o pueden estar en riesgo de tener problemas de aprendizaje. Nuestro Programa de Intervención Temprana anima a los padres a participar activamente durante el proceso de evaluación.
La enfermera, el trabajador social, el psicólogo y el terapista de lenguaje y habla trabajan estrechamente con las familias para asegurar una transición positiva y confortable a los servicios de la primera infancia.
Una Evaluación de Desarrollo gratis para niños recién nacidos hasta 33 meses de edad está ofreciéndose a las familias a través del Programa de Intervención Temprana del Distrito Escolar 15.

02-13-2024 — Spanish Dual Language Information Night
Spanish Dual Language (SDL) program: Join us for one of the Spanish Dual Language information nights scheduled for February 1, 8, or 13, 2024 (English | Spanish). If you wish to apply for the Spanish Dual Language program for your kindergarten student, please note that applications for the program are due by March 15, 2024. (If the number of families interested in Spanish Dual Language exceeds the amount of space available, based on enrollment, a random selection process will be conducted in the first week of April.)

02-15-2024 — Kindergarten Registration/Information Night
Regular Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) program: Attend a Kindergarten Registration/Information Night at your school on February 15, 2024. Registration is due by July 1, 2024.
District 15 will offer a Kindergarten Parent Information Night (English) | (Spanish) at each of our schools on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

- (excludes Winston Campus Elementary, which will become a Dual-Language only school in 2024-25, and Thomas Jefferson, which will become a Middle School in 2024-25)

02-21-2024 — NSSEO - Purposeful Parenting & Creating Healthy Boundaries
February 21st, 5:30-7:00 at NSSEO Central Office (799 W. Kensignton Ave., Mt. Prospect, IL 60056)
- Purposeful Parenting & Creating Healthy Boundaries with Jackie Rhew. As the co-founder of the Center for Emotional Wellness of the Northwest Suburbs, Jacqueline is an expert in her field and is called upon by hundreds of school districts both locally and internationally for consulting staff in order to better serve their youth. Jacqueline served as a Clinical Consultant for AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital for the past 10 years. Previously, Jacqueline also served as Assistant Director of the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health School Anxiety/School Refusal Program where she was instrumental in the creation, development, and success of the program. Jacqueline has presented as Keynote Speaker and facilitated, both locally and nationally, over 500 trainings, webinars, and workshops on a variety of topics. Her ability to relate to her audience along with her vast knowledge and experiences working with children, adolescents, families, and professionals combine to make her a sought after expert in the mental health field.

- Transition to Adulthood: What to Do When Your Child is Turning 18 with Susan Aaron. Knowledge is Power: Preparing for your Child’s Transition to Adulthood. She will introduce how to build a meaningful day with your young adult, including educational post-secondary options, discuss Transition-related training and resources for families, share a to-do list of actions to take as your child turns 18, and provide brief explanations of federal and state programs like SSI, Medicaid, Home & Community Based Services, and guardianship/adult decision-making options.

Renee James will be presenting. What’s the difference between a 504 plan and an IEP? How do you know which one is best for your child? Renee will discuss the difference between the two, the benefits of both and what to do when you are not sure if your child’s needs are not being met by their current plan.

Anatomy of a Meltdown Presented by Jennifer Rosinia

Addison Early Learning Center, 650 Ardmore Ave, Addison, ILIt’s easy to get overwhelmed, frustrated and even angry when your child is having a meltdown. Join is to learn what happens to the body when feeling overwhelmed, under attack, hijacked and helpless and how you can help and support your child during these difficult times.
Jennifer will review the body’s stress response system and help parents recognize sensory processing challenges. She’ll describe and discuss 3 stages of a meltdown, beginning with triggers, signs and symptoms that a meltdown may be starting, and share strategies parents can use to prevent and intervene at each stage.

Monday, April 22nd: Masking in Autism
Jessica Beaty, Autism and IEP Advocate will discuss the significance of masking and internalizing feelings in Autistics. Teachers and parents often struggle to support students who have difficulty expressing their emotions and may mask their true feelings. This discussion will explore the potential reasons for this behavior and guide parents and school staff to identify the signs. By the end of this conversation, parents and teachers will have practical strategies to work together to meet student needs.
