Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from St. Louis University
Hi! My name is Tricia Prebil and I am the nurse at Sundling Junior High School. It is a position and a job that I have grown to love over the last twenty years! Yes, that’s right! I have worked at Sundling longer than your children have been on this earth, but I feel like they challenge me to keep growing right along with them!
I received my bachelor’s degree in Nursing from St. Louis University and had my first job working in a large urban teaching hospital there after I graduated. I have been a hospital nurse on surgery wings, cancer wards and medical floors but always had adult patients until now. I think I must have always been drawn to school nursing because I almost chose it for the last semester clinical that seniors had to complete – what might be called an internship in other areas of study.
My husband and I are transplants to Chicago, but I can’t think of a better place to have landed! We have three grown children who are all products of District 15 schools and 5 adorable grandchildren. All my extended family live in other areas of the country, so it takes a lot of planning and traveling to keep connected. One person I am immensely proud of is my 90+ year old mother who is still living on her own and teaching me a lot of lessons about growing older!
I spend my time away from Sundling working in our yard, sewing and baking. I make a pretty amazing sugar cookie that had been a recipe of my grandmother’s and is now a family favorite for any and every holiday. I have about 200 cookie cutters to make that happen!
I hope all of you feel that my door is always open - along with my ears and heart - to anything you want to share with the school about your child’s health issues.
