Kirsten Maxwell, RN
Kirsten Maxwell lives in Palatine, Illinois and became a Registered Nurse in 2010 after graduating from College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois with an Associate of Applied Science in Professional Nursing. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of Iowa and was employed as a corporate communications executive for nearly 20 years before becoming a Registered Nurse.
Prior to falling in love with school nursing, Kirsten studied and became a nurse while employed by Lake Forest Hospital (now Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital) first in Diagnostic Imaging and then in the Emergency Department for 6 years. She then spent over 2 years as a Registered Oncology Nurse for Dr. Victoria Kut/Lake Shore Oncology and Hematology in Libertyville, Illinois. Subsequent experiences included work with developmentally and physically disabled patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric in residential, rehabilitative and day program settings. Most recently, Kirsten was employed as a Float Nurse by Northwest Community Hospital’s Medical Specialty Clinics and practiced in the specialties of Rheumatology, Dermatology, Allergy and Immunology and Endocrinology.
Her favorite aunt, a lifelong school nurse, inspired Kirsten to become a nurse and encouraged her to give school nursing a try. A mother of 2 “twenty-somethings” — a son and a daughter 12 months apart in age! — Kirsten’s passion for nursing originated in her childhood living and growing up with her developmentally disabled uncle, a Down Syndrome patient. Her studies and work in communication inform her professionalism as a nurse.
Kirsten loves to stay on top of the news and NFL football, write, play with her cat and dogs, and cook and bake for others.
