Substitute Teacher Training

The April 7, 2020 Substitute Teacher Training has been cancelled.

- FEE: $50 registration fee for background check (payable by cash, check, or PayPal)

Substitute Training for Both Short-Term and Traditional Substitute Teachers
All potential substitutes must:
- Register in advance for the workshop
- Complete the full-day training session
- Complete a background check (bring a valid government issued photo ID)
Requirements and Information for the Short-Term Sub License
- Must hold an Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or show completion of 60 semester hours of college coursework.
- Short-term sub licenses are valid until June 30, 2023.
- On this license, you cannot teach more than 5 consecutive days per licensed teacher.
- A training program developed by the district must be completed prior to teaching on the license. (A certificate of completion will be issued after the training.)
- There will be a $25 application fee for the short-term sub license from ISBE.
- This license will be valid for substitute teaching in all grades of public schools, pre-K through Grade 12.
Requirements and Information for the Traditional Sub License
- Must hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- This license will be valid for substitute teaching in all grades of public school, pre-K through Grade 12.
- Traditional sub licenses are valid for 5 years, and may be renewed with the payment of registration fees.
