• Principal Welcome

Welcome to the Plum Grove Junior High PTSA website. We are delighted to have this opportunity to share information about our school with you.

The faculty and staff at Plum Grove are committed to providing a learning environment that truly meets the District 15 mission: To produce world class learners by building a connected learning community. Our connected learning community includes approximately 800 seventh- and eighth-grade students, 55 certified faculty and staff members, 20 support staff members, and more than 1,300 active PTSA members.

At Plum Grove, we care about the whole child and firmly believe that every child can succeed. Our caring and dedicated staff work to provide “best practice” instruction and to evaluate their efforts with measurable results. Our regular surveys of parents and students consistently show high satisfaction with the safe, orderly, and caring learning environment at Plum Grove.

We are proud of our students’ academic achievement. Regular analysis of test data shows that our students make substantial academic growth during their years at Plum Grove. In addition to integrated academic curricula in science, math, language arts, and social studies, we offer enrichment programs in foreign languages, visual and practical arts, music, and media design. Plum Grove students consistently perform in the top 10-15 percent on local, state, and national assessments. In 1998, the United States Department of Education recognized Plum Grove Junior High as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Plum Grove also earned the 2012 Academic Excellence Award designation on the Illinois Honor Roll (sixth consecutive year), a distinction that goes to high-achieving Illinois schools.

Plum Grove’s instructional program incorporates technology as appropriate, with controlled Internet access to permit students to make use of instructional resources on the Web, multimedia computer labs giving all students the opportunity to develop their technology skills, and television production facilities which students use to produce daily school news programming.

In addition to our excellent academic programs, we provide a variety of extracurricular activities designed to promote student growth. Every year, students have the opportunity to participate in a number of clubs, interscholastic sports, and intramural sports. The Plum Grove student government is involved in both school activities and community outreach projects.

We encourage you to get to know us better and learn why parents and students enthusiastically support Plum Grove. We welcome visitors and are happy to answer any questions about our school. Please feel free to contact me at 847-963-7600.

  • Dr Wilson's Note:

Dear Plum Grove Parents and Guardians,

I hope this email finds you well. We realize that we will not be starting the school year in person and that many changes to a “traditional” school start bring up many questions and unknowns. As we all adjust to this together, please know that the administration and staff at Plum Grove remain committed to providing an engaging and meaningful junior high school experience, with continued support and resources.  We are looking forward to starting school and getting back into a school routine. We are all in this together, and will continue to focus our work on what’s most important, our students!

The Plum Grove Staff is looking forward to working with you as our “Partners in Learning” this year. Please remember that our front office staff is here to assist with your transition into the new school year. Mrs.Gama, our school secretary, Mrs.Dowd, our office clerical, Mrs. Ostoich, our school nurse, and Mrs. Freer our Health Aide will be available for support throughout the year. The Plum Grove Team remains the same for the upcoming school year, and consists of myself,  Assistant Principal Mrs. Byrne, and Ms. Cassiday, our School Counselor. Please do not hesitate to contact any of us if we can be of assistance to you. As a leadership team, it is our goal to provide a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable learning experience for our students so that they continue to achieve the academic excellence that the community has come to expect from Plum Grove. If you have questions or areas of concern, we encourage you to contact any of your child’s teachers, our school counselor, or the administrative staff, so that we can work together to help your child reach his/her academic goals throughout the year.

Students will have access to their schedules using the Infinite Campus Student Portal on August 12th after 1:00 PM. Students can use their Chromebook login information to gain access and view their schedules.  Prior to the start of school on Wednesday, August 19th, students should begin logging into their school email account to look for messages from their teachers, getting them set up with Google Classroom codes and information prior to the first day. Help us to remind students to have their Chromebook charged and ready for learning each day, and to regularly check emails for daily updates and news a few days prior to school, and thereafter. Attached in this email is a copy of our bell schedule Bell Schedule . Students will use this bell schedule as they follow their unique class schedule to move throughout the day. Teachers will be taking attendance for classes at the beginning of the school day, and for each class period.

    Student Schedules

The process of scheduling a junior high school of more than 860 students is extremely complex.  During the past several months, the Plum Grove Staff has been working through the scheduling process for all students.  This was a time-consuming process that involved content specialists and student support staff.  We appreciate the trust you have given us in using our best professional judgment in placing students.  Our scheduling process is a team effort that is very complex and completed with great care.  Please know that we work to place each student in the best schedule possible. Every consideration is made to best accommodate each student’s needs. However, due to priority scheduling placed on core content class placement, we cannot guarantee that your child will get both electives they have requested. We understand that your child’s schedule is very important to you and your student. However, as such, we will not be able to change schedules if students did not receive their elective of choice. Thank you for your understanding.  We appreciate you for relying on and trusting our professional judgments on this important issue.
