UNITED TO MAKE A BETTER WORLD: CELEBRATING SOCIAL WORKERS

The week of March 4-10 2018 marks the celebration of National School Social Work Week.

With the theme of "United to Make a Better World," school social workers across the district are recognized for their critically important role in helping students every day to meet the academic, social, and emotional challenges on the road to becoming successful and productive young adults.

Please join the District 15 students, families, and school staff in saluting our school social workers and celebrating School Social Work Week 2018.

PLTW
JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS RECEIVE STEM HONOR

Winston Campus and Plum Grove Junior High Schools have been recognized as Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished Schools for the 2017-18 school year.

WCJH and PGJH are among 340 schools in the country and 10 junior high/middle schools in Illinois to receive this recognition. PLTW Distinguished Schools are selected due to high student interest and enrollment in PLTW classes.

In District 15, there are three PLTW courses offered at each junior high school:

7th grade: Design and Modeling

Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation.

8th grade: Automation and Robotics

Students learn about the history and impact of automation and robotics as they explore mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems.

8th grade: Medical Detectives

Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they analyze genetic testing results to diagnose disease and study medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs (course descriptions from pltw.org).

Congratulations to WCJH and PGJH on this recognition!

INPUT NEEDED: VALUES AND STRATEGIC PLANNING

The school district is developing a strategic plan this spring to provide clear direction and vision for the Board of Education and administration over the next several years.

Community input will determine the foundation of the strategic plan: The aspirational values for the school district and our students.

Aspirational values are the organizational qualities for which a school district wants to be known or the individual attributes we believe characterize a successful student.

Please provide your feedback through the online survey provided below. Responses will be accepted through Sunday, March 11.

The survey is available in the following languages:

English survey
Spanish survey
Polish survey
Japanese survey

We value your feedback. The results of this survey will become the foundation of the CCSD15 strategic plan. The district will share the results with you during its strategic planning process in the spring of 2018.

FACEBOOK LIVE: STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS

Join Board of Education President Lisa Szczupaj on the District 15 Facebook page Friday, March 9 at 12 noon for a live video chat regarding the strategic planning process.
