        NSSEO Parent Education Resource Center - 2023-24 Schedule of  Events

        • January 23rd, 5:30-7:00 at PERC (520 S Plum Grove Road, Palatine, IL 60067-6933)
          • RTA and Pace Transportation with Bianca Diaz. Bianca is RTA’s Mobility Outreach Coordinator for Lake, McHenry, and Northwest/North Shore Cook County areas and will be presenting on accessibility features on buses/trains, trip planning, and safety tips for traveling. Additionally, she will provide information on RTA’s one-on-one Travel Training program, Ventra, RTA’s Ride Free and Reduced Fare Programs, and transportation options in our area.

        • January 29th, 1:00-3:00 at PERC (520 S Plum Grove Road, Palatine, IL 60067-6933)
          • "Transition to Adulthood: When the Bus Stops Coming" with Teri Steinberg. Teri Steinberg is a frequent lecturer, facilitator, consultant, and trainer on disability issues. She has worked in the disability community through grants from the Illinois Council of Developmental Disabilities, the Department of Human Services, and the Illinois State Board of Education, including as Faculty Advisor for Illinois Partners in Policymaking, Chicago Regional Manager for MicroBoards & Cooperatives, & Community Partner for Illinois Autism Technical Training & Assistance Project. Teri consults transition programs, schools, and families on person-centered planning in keeping with the principles of self-determination and living an inclusive life in the community.

          • Future Housing Options with Michelle Schwartz. Learn about DHS/DD Waiver funded CILAs (Community Integrated Living Arrangements) options, Supported Housing using Home Based Services (HBS) funds, and ICF/DD (Intermediate Care Facilities/Developmental Disabilities).

        • February 21st, 5:30-7:00 at NSSEO Central Office (799 W. Kensignton Ave., Mt. Prospect, IL 60056)
          • Purposeful Parenting & Creating Healthy Boundaries with Jackie Rhew. As the co-founder of the Center for Emotional Wellness of the Northwest Suburbs, Jacqueline is an expert in her field and is called upon by hundreds of school districts both locally and internationally for consulting staff in order to better serve their youth. Jacqueline served as a Clinical Consultant for AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital for the past 10 years. Previously, Jacqueline also served as Assistant Director of the Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health School Anxiety/School Refusal Program where she was instrumental in the creation, development, and success of the program. Jacqueline has presented as Keynote Speaker and facilitated, both locally and nationally, over 500 trainings, webinars, and workshops on a variety of topics. Her ability to relate to her audience along with her vast knowledge and experiences working with children, adolescents, families, and professionals combine to make her a sought after expert in the mental health field.

          • Transition to Adulthood: What to Do When Your Child is Turning 18 with Susan Aaron. Knowledge is Power: Preparing for your Child’s Transition to Adulthood. She will introduce how to build a meaningful day with your young adult, including educational post-secondary options, discuss Transition-related training and resources for families, share a to-do list of actions to take as your child turns 18, and provide brief explanations of federal and state programs like SSI, Medicaid, Home & Community Based Services, and guardianship/adult decision-making options.
