Schools Recognized by State Board of Education

Academic Excellence Award Six District 15 schools have been recognized by the 2008 Illinois Honor Roll with an Academic Excellence Award.

The Illinois Honor Roll is a joint project of the Illinois State Board of Education and Northern Illinois University. The Honor Roll recognizes schools in three categories: Spotlight Schools, Academic Excellence Awards, and Academic Improvement Awards.

The Academic Excellence Award recognized 388 schools in Illinois that have sustained high academic performance results over at least three years. In District 15, all six recognized schools have received this honor in the past, as well.

Schools receiving the Academic Excellence Award in District 15 are:

  • Hunting Ridge School (fourth consecutive year)
  • Marion Jordan School (fifth consecutive year)
  • Pleasant Hill School (fifth consecutive year)
  • Plum Grove Junior High (second consecutive year)
  • Frank C. Whiteley School (second year)
  • Winston Campus Elementary School (second consecutive year)

To receive the Academic Excellence Honor, the schools must meet the following criteria:

  • At least 90 percent of students met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for at least three consecutive years.
  • All schools must have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the past two years, and:
    • Have 95 percent student participation rate in state assessments for all students and each subgroup.
    • Have an attendance rate of at least 90 percent.
