Pleasant Hill School Celebrates 50 Years
Pleasant Hill School, 434 W. Illinois Ave., Palatine, is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary during December.
The school first opened its doors to students on December 3, 1956. Today, Pleasant Hill is school home to approximately 580 kindergarten through eighth grade students. The school still operates in the original building, although during the 1989-90 school year, it underwent a $3.9 million renovation and addition.
An assembly commemorating 50 years of quality education is scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 13. The ceremony will feature a historical slide show, remarks by Palatine Mayor Rita Mullins, District 15 superintendent Dr. Robert A. McKanna and others. The students’ choice for a name for the school’s “cougar” mascot will be revealed, and all students will receive a “Happy Birthday, Pleasant Hill” cupcake for lunch.
A special photograph of members of the school community was taken on the school grounds to commemorate the occasion. The Pleasant Hill PTA handled planning and staging of the photo with special assistance from the Palatine Fire Department, which provided a ladder truck to enable a high-level photographic perspective.
