SPARK Meeting to Focus on Reading Disabilities
“Is It a Reading Disability or Just a Developmental Lag?” is the topic for the November meeting of SPARK (Special Education Parents Accessing Resources and Knowledge) at 7 p.m. November 27 at Plum Grove Junior High School, 2600 Plum Grove Rd., Rolling Meadows. The meeting is open to all parents of District 15 students.
The presenter, Jo Ann Paldo, will talk about why reading disabilities often go undetected, the warning signs of a problem and what parents should do when they suspect a reading disability. Paldo, who holds a master’s degree in learning disabilities, has 25 years of experience teaching special education at the elementary and high school levels, is a reading specialist and is a board member of the International Dyslexia Association.
SPARK, a Northwest Suburban Council of PTA/PTSA committee, serves families of children with special needs in District 15. The group’s purpose is to educate parents, provide resources, network and support for families of all children receiving special education services. For additional information, contact any District 15 school for the name of the school’s SPARK representative.
