November Employee of the Month:
Pam Rogers, Secretary, Central Road School
Visitors to Central Road School are always greeted by Pam Rogers’ warm smile, “even though she may be simultaneously answering a phone call, directing a volunteer, filling an ice pack, making copies, or enrolling a new student,” her nominator said admiringly. “What sets Pam apart is her ability to juggle so many tasks at one time, always with a smile and calm demeanor. The staff at Central Road has truly come to believe and appreciate that Pam cannot be thrown a curve ball!”
Pam has been part of the Central Road staff since the mid-1990s. When she first became office clerical, the school was temporarily housed in the old Clearbrook facility (now Conyers Learning Academy), while a new Central Road building was constructed. When the new school opened at the beginning of the 1996-97 school year, Pam was there, and after three years, she moved into her current job.
“She is patient and has a knack for prioritizing,” her nominator said. “Pam truly exemplifies the position of building secretary. During three years of much transition in the clerical position at the school, Pam rose to the occasion and took over all of the office duties single-handedly with so much as a blip on her radar screen.”
Pam grew up in Urbana. She attended Illinois State University, where she graduated with a degree in business education. She taught seventh grade in Highland Park for a year, worked in Allstate’s auditing department for two years, taught at a business school for four years, and worked at Abbott Laboratories for five years, first as a secretary in the sales department and then in the international department in accounting. When she and husband Bob became parents of twin sons, Stewart and Keith (now 23), she decided to be a stay-at-home mom to the twins and son Brett, now 21. When she decided to return to work, she joined District 15 and Central Road.
Pam likes her job “because there’s never one day the same as another” and also because of the people she meets and works with. “Central Road has a fabulous staff—kind, considerate, very positive, and upbeat,” she said. “The parents are so nice, and the kids make you laugh and make you cry—you never know what to expect from them.”
When she’s not at school, Pam loves spending time with family and friends, walking with her husband and their chocolate Lab, and her “peaceful times” of reading and gardening.
Pam will be recognized at the November 8, 2006, Board of Education meeting, to be held at Walter R. Sundling Junior High School, at 7 p.m.
