Jesse Alexander Ranks in Top 10 in National Bus Safety Roadeo

Jesse Alexander, a District 15 school bus driver, placed ninth in the National School Transportation Association’s “Roadeo” July 22-23 in Lake Tahoe, Nev. Alexander had qualified for the national event by winning top honors in the Illinois Association for Pupil Transportation’s annual School Bus Safety Roadeo June 23-24 and the District 15 Transportation Department’s annual competition in May.

Alexander, competing with 47 other drivers from across the United States in the conventional bus division of the Roadeo, received a plaque acknowledging his “top ten” finish as well as a participation plaque. The competition included both a written test and driving events such as steering through barrels, correct student pick-up procedures, simulated railroad crossings, a straight line event in which drivers have to keep the back tires of their bus between lines of tennis balls, and more.

Alexander has been a District 15 driver for five years, driving both regular routes and working as a substitute. He has been a professional school bus driver for 11 years, including driving for Rolling Meadows High Schoo, Elk Grove Village High School, and District 25.
