Governor Blagojevich Visits District 15

Governor Blagojevich and Dr. T. Berry BrazeltonIllinois Governor Rod Blagojevich visited District 15’s John G. Conyers Learning Academy on July 25 for the ceremonial signing of a new law creating the Preschool for All program, which makes Illinois the first state to make preschool available for all three- and four-year olds. The law, created by Senate Bill 1497, authorizes the use of state funds to provide pre-kindergarten services for children not defined as “at-risk.” The Illinois budget for the fiscal year that began July 1 includes $45 million for Preschool for All, which will give 10,000 more children in the state a chance to attend preschool this year. On hand for the signing were District 15 Board of Education president Nancy L. Carlson, Superintendent Dr. Robert A. McKanna and other district administrators, representatives of state and local governments, child development expert Dr. T. Berry Brazelton (pictured right), and others.
