District 15 Bus Driver to Compete in National ‘Roadeo’
Jesse Alexander, a school bus driver for Community Consolidated School District 15’s Transportation Department, has qualified to compete in the National School Transportation Association’s “Roadeo,” set for July 22-23 in Lake Tahoe, Nev. Approximately 100 top-ranked school bus drivers will participate in the national event.
Alexander earned a slot in the national competition by winning top honors in the Illinois Association for Pupil Transportation’s 27th annual school bus safety roadeo June 23-24. The state event included not only the driving course, but also a 75-question written exam, a pre-trip bus inspection test, and a seminar on pre-school bus safety. His time on the driving event—7 minutes and 9 seconds—combined with the high score of 787 points, earned him the winning trophy. Alexander has been one of the top scorers at the state event for the past four years. He also was the winner of the District 15 Transportation Department’s 6th annual competition May 4-5.
Alexander has been driving for District 15 for five years as a regular route driver as well as a substitute. He has been a professional school bus driver for 11 years, including stints at Rolling Meadows High School, Elk Grove Village High School, and District 25.
“The part of my job I love the best is getting the kids to school safely,” Alexander said.
