New administrative appointments approved by Board of Education

April 26, 2007

Two members of the superintendent’s cabinet, Jim Garwood and Mary Zarr, have been named assistant superintendents, effective immediately. The appointments of Mary Salsinger as principal of Winston Campus-Junior High School and of Andy Tieman as Winston Campus-Elementary principal were also approved by the Board of Education at its April 25 meeting, along with eight assistant principals and an early childhood coordinator.

Jim Garwood Garwood has served as executive director, administrative services, since the beginning of the 2006-07 school year. His assignments include responsibility for the technology, data application, music, art, physical education, Learning Resource Centers, and communications departments; serving as the junior high liaison; complaint management; student assignment; crisis management; suspensions, second chance, and truancy; and more.
Mary Zarr Zarr became executive director for curriculum, special services, and school improvement July 1, 2006. Before being named to that job, she had served two years as principal of Kimball Hill.
Mary Salsinger Salsinger has been principal of Winston Campus-Elementary for the past two years and served as the school’s building assistant the year before that. Previously, she was a classroom teacher in third- and fourth-grade gifted classes at Pleasant Hill School.
Andrew Tieman Tieman has been an administrative facilitator serving Kimball Hill, Thomas Jefferson, and Frank C. Whiteley schools during the 2006-07 school year. From 1997 to 2006, he taught fifth grade at Pleasant Hill School.

Walter R. Sundling Junior High—Anthony Hafner

Gray M. Sanborn—Sue Matkovic, currently second-grade teacher, Kimball Hill

Pleasant Hill—Kristie Seifert, currently fifth-grade teacher, Stuart R. Paddock

Kimball Hill—Claire Kowalczyk, currently first-grade teacher, Marion Jordan

Virginia Lake—Joanna Byskosh, currently sixth-grade teacher at Winston Campus-Elementary

Frank C. Whiteley—Debbie Sorenson, currently LD/BD resource teacher, Stuart R. Paddock

Dana Martelli was named early childhood coordinator.
