New 5-Year Contract with SEIU Approved
April 23, 2007
A new five-year contract between District 15 and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 73 has been approved by the union and the district. Terms of the contract will be effective with the beginning of the 2007-08 school year and continue through the 2011-2012 school year. SEIU represents full- and part-time custodial employees, maintenance personnel, internal services, and Transportation Department mechanics.
Terms of the agreement include a 3.5 percent wage increase in the first year with a two-year phase-in to eliminate the existing salary schedule, and then 3 percent increases in each subsequent year of the contract. The new contract also contains minor language changes to align the SEIU contract with other negotiated agreements in the district.
The bargaining teams met in four sessions. “The teams worked very well together,” noted Dr. Jean Sophie, assistant superintendent for Personal and Human Services. “We are pleased to have reached a fair and equitable agreement with SEIU, which represents a group of district employees who are highly valued for their many contributions to the day-to-day operations of our schools and our Transportation Department.”
