March Volunteer of the Month: Aimee Brunlieb
Vice president-programs, Kimball Hill PTA
March 1 , 2007
“Kimball Hill School and the Kimball Hill PTA have benefited from the time and energy Aimee has given in various capacities throughout her years of volunteering at Kimball Hill,” her nominators said.
Although this is her first year as a member of the PTA board, Aimee has been involved for many years. “When my daughter was first in school, one of the moms asked me if I would help with the Cougar House publishing project, typing up stories the kids wrote and helping make books for them,” she recalls. “I was hooked right then and there.” Since then, Aimee has helped with many school and PTA projects including the school picnic, the holiday store, the fun fair, and more. She served five years as Market Day chair. This year she set up a highly successful drive allowing parents to donate pies directly to the CEDA Northwest Food Pantry. As vice president of programs, Aimee has planned many events and activities for children and parents. “She sought feedback from teachers regarding the types of assemblies they’d like and planning accordingly,” said her nominator.
Aimee is from Palatine and attended St. Theresa School and Sacred Heart of Mary High School in the building which now houses Conyers Learning Academy. She earned a degree in business administration from Illinois State University, and began her business career with Wendy’s. In 13 years she worked her way from assistant manager to general manager to district manager, a post she held for seven years. She then took a job as a retail training specialist for Blockbuster, covering Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa, a job which required travel. Aimee was frequently away from home four to five days at a time, and she missed her daughter. “I felt I was missing out on her life,” Aimee says, so four years ago, she became a stay-at-home mom. With more time, she not only helped out at the school but also had time for coaching cheerleading and girls’ basketball. Last April, she returned to work in the District 15 School Nutrition Services central kitchen.
Aimee and her husband Pete are parents of Sara, now in sixth grade, and Aimee is an active member of the PTA’s sixth-grade recognition committee. She is involved with Sara’s travel softball team, and Aimee also enjoys playing softball in a recreational league.
“She is a dynamic individual who is well respected, conscientious, and an asset to our school,” according to her nominators.
Aimee will be recognized at the March 14, 2007, Board of Education meeting, to be held at Walter R. Sundling Junior High School, at 7 p.m.
