District 15 Spelling Bee Winner to Compete in Suburban Cook County Bee

February 2, 2007

Aamani Paturi, a seventh-grade student at Walter R. Sundling Junior High School, outspelled contestants from 17 other district schools to win the 2007 District 15 Spelling Bee. Her winning word was “truculent.”

She will compete in the North Suburban Cook County Final Spelling Bee on February 22, 2007. The suburban bee is also held in two other locations, and one winner from each location will advance to the 2007 Chicagoland Spelling Bee Suburban Finals, scheduled for March 7, 2007. One student from this meet, along with one student from the Chicago city finals, will participate in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on May 30-31, 2007.

Aamani is a three-time District 15 spelling champion, having won the district bee in 2004 and 2006. In 2004, she was also the winner of the North Suburban Cook County Spelling Bee.
