January Employee of the Month: Julie Simpson
Secretary, Jane Addams School
Julie Simpson’s ready smile and friendly manner “make a great first impression on visitors and phone callers,” her nominator said. “She is an outstanding secretary!”
Julie is praised for being the organized and efficient anchor of the office staff, as well as for her great sense of humor which “brings a fun atmosphere to the office.” She also “keeps her cool” during stressful situations, her nominator noted.
As Jane Addams secretary for the past ten years, Julie has become very knowledgeable. “She has all the answers for staff, whether they are new to the school or have been around for some time,” according to her nominator. “She responds quickly to veteran teachers and is respected for the insight that she provides to them. She takes care of the young teachers by helping them and being a good listener.”
She also cares for the students, especially those with special needs. She provides office “jobs” for some of the special needs children.
“They say that no employee is indispensable, but Julie Simpson would be the one person who could make you question that statement,” her nominator said.
Originally from McHenry, Julie graduated from McHenry High School and then attended secretarial school in Carthage, Illinois. Before becoming a District 15 employee, Julie worked as a supervisor for John Hancock Insurance in Chicago. Julie and her husband Jeff are parents of two daughters: Mallory, a freshman at Northern Illinois University, and Megan, a junior at Fremd High School. They have lived in Hoffman Estates for 25 years. In her free time, Julie enjoys sewing—particularly appliques on sweatshirts—and scrapbooking.
Julie will be recognized at the January 10, 2007, Board of Education meeting, to be held at Walter R. Sundling Junior High School, at 7 p.m.
