Conyers Learning Academy Teacher Honored by Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club
Tracey Wrobel, a teacher at John G. Conyers Learning Academy, has been selected as a local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club “Teacher of the Year.” She was presented with a check for $1,000 for the school, a $100 gift card to buy supplies for her classroom, a “Teacher of the Year” shirt and a personalized certificate. She also was recognized by the District 15 Board of Education at the May 10.
Wrobel was one of ten area teachers to receive the 2006 award. Local winners have the opportunity to apply for the company’s state “Teacher of the Year” award. She was nominated by a colleague, Rick Renfro, at the Wheeling Sam’s Club, and store associates chose her from among those nominated. Two store representatives came to the school to make the presentation.
“Tracey Wrobel is seen by all her peers as one of the best teachers in our field,” Renfro said in his nomination. “She has taught her students to work quietly at their desks and cooperatively in groups. She has provided food and clothing to students who had little or nothing, and she has provided a safe consistent environment where students know they are cared for. She is the best teacher I’ve ever known.”
