Plum Grove Raises $11,000 for Pennies for Patients
Students and staff at Plum Grove Junior High School raised $11,077.09 during a three-week “Pennies for Patients” drive, a benefit for the Illinois Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The fund raising effort, sponsored by the school’s Community Service Club, included a variety of events such as “Mickey D’s with OC” in which students purchased chances to win a lunch from McDonald’s donated by the school’s police liaison officer, Terry Cappelen; a “carnival week” with selling of tickets for a “Soak the Staff” dunk tank; a whipped cream pie-eating contest; and a dessert walk.
Over the past three years, Plum Grove has raised $24,670.25 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and last year the school was named the top fund raiser among all schools in the state.
