Thomas Jefferson Fund Raiser Purchases Rock-Climbing Wall
Students from Thomas Jefferson School in Hoffman Estates are “climbing the walls” of the school’s gymnasium, enjoying a new rock-climbing wall installed recently through the proceeds of a “walk-a-thon” fundraiser.
“Rock climbing is an exciting new way to address all of the state physical education standards,” said Ryan Johnson, physical education instructor. “It promotes upper and lower body strength, critical thinking skills, and team-building concepts including communication and cooperation. This will benefit students for years to come.” Johnson and assistant principal Marilyn Ablin coordinated acquisition of the new equipment.
The wall, 8 feet high and 48 feet long, allows for a variety of activities and games designed to enhance the physical and mental health of all students in the building, from kindergarten to sixth grade. All student use is carefully supervised to ensure safety.
