District 15 Board of Education To Discuss School Start Times

A possible change in start times for most District 15 schools for the 2006-07 school year will be on the agenda for the April 19 Board of Education meeting to allow for public comment. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Walter R. Sundling Junior High School, 1100 N. Smith St., Palatine.

Starting times across the district are staggered to allow for more efficient use of the district’s buses and to accommodate the state requirement for the district to provide transportation for students who attend private and parochial schools. In the past, start times for most District 15 elementary schools traditionally rotated from 8:30 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. in three-year cycles. Beginning with the 2003-04 year, the start times then in place were retained to save the cost of rescheduling all bus routes.

The proposed school day schedule, if adopted, would be:

7:55 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.
All four junior high schools (Plum Grove, Carl Sandburg, Walter R. Sunding and Winston Campus)
