District 15 Student Honored by Infinitec North
Jordan Lindsay, a sixth-grade student at Marion Jordan School, has been named a winner of the Outstanding Student Technology Award from Infinitec North, the assistive technology program of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Chicago.
Jordan was selected as an award winner in recognition of her outstanding use of assistive technology. She uses a Dynamyte augmentative communication device, activating a head switch to scan words on the device which the computer then speaks for her. Jordan’s teachers report that her strong motivation to be able to converse with others gives her the strength to overcome the physical barriers of her disability. Jordan also uses assistive technology software to listen to electronic books on a computer. She uses a head switch to access computer software through a switch interface device.
She will be honored at an Infinitec North dinner April 27 at the Cotillion in Palatine. The Community Consolidated School District 15 Board of Education also recognized Jordan’s outstanding accomplishments at the board’s March 8 meeting.
