Thomas Jefferson Students Experiment with Sound

Fifth- and sixth-grade students at Thomas Jefferson School in Hoffman Estates enjoyed hands-on experiments with sound on May 24 in a special program called “Sound Tweak.”

“Sound Tweak,” developed as an extension to the school’s comprehensive music program taught by Judith Jahnke, featured nine different experiments enabling students to explore sound, rhythm, and composition. Included were aspects of music not traditionally covered in the elementary music curriculum such as “The Yoke’s on You” (sensitivity to listening), “Catch the Beat” (beat/pulse), and “Code Breakers” (binary code), among others.

Parents assisted at the various stations. This is the second year “Sound Tweak” has been offered at Thomas Jefferson.
