Paddock Students Win Environmental Awards
Students from two clubs at Stuart R. Paddock School have won both state and national awards for environmental projects.
Members of the Earth ANGELS (Agents for Nurturing and Guarding our Environmental Legacy), a club for third and fourth graders sponsored by teacher Kathleen Cochrane, and fifth and sixth graders who are members of the Energy Education Helpers, sponsored by teacher Melanie Andres, earned recognition for year-long environmental projects. These included initiatives to save gasoline and electricity, recycling, and other conservation efforts.
Representatives of both groups were recognized at the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield on May 10 through the Illinois Sustainability in Education Programs of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
Stuart R. Paddock has been selected as the Illinois School of the Year and the students have been invited to the Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C., to receive an award given by the National Energy Education Development. Students are now raising money for the trip this summer.
