Board of Education Seats New Members,
Establishes School Start Times for 2005-06
The Board of Education of Community Consolidated School District 15 officially seated four newly elected members at a special April 26 meeting. Nancy Lee Carlson, Kelly Keenan, Tim Millar, and Wendy Rowden began their four-year terms as board members.
In other action, the board voted to restore 40 minutes to the junior high day. Restoration of the 40-minute period to the junior high day results in the restoration of 18 teaching positions that had been eliminated in previously approved budget cuts. The cost of retaining these teachers, estimated at approximately $1 million, means the district will not make as large a budget reduction as previously planned, a decision which will increase the operating deficit for the coming school year. “There is no such thing as found money,” Superintendent Robert A. McKanna told the board.
Restoring the current junior high schedule means that starting times and bus schedules for the 2005-06 school year will remain the same as they were during the 2004-05 school year.
Class times for all district schools for the 2005-06 school year will be:
