Sanborn Student Wins Highest Honors in WordMasters Challenge

Jeanne Kaliski, a sixth grader at Gray M. Sanborn School, won highest honors in the most recent meet of this year’s WordMasters Challenge. Competing in the difficult Blue Division of the national language arts competition in February, Jeanne was one of just 40 sixth-grade students nationally to earn a perfect score in the second of three meets to be held this year.

Sanborn sixth grader Claire Cinquegrani also achieved outstanding results. Both students were coached by teachers Barb Figlewicz and Venus Gintowt.

More than 225,000 students in grades three through eight competed in this year’s WordMasters Challenge. The competition is an exercise in critical thinking which challenges students to learn new words and then to solve analogies based on relationships among those words.
