Whiteley Service Over Self Club Raises $2,004 for Tsunami Relief
A month-long fund-raising initiative by the Service Over Self (SOS) Club at Frank C. Whiteley School, Hoffman Estates, resulted in a contribution of $2,004.90 to tsunami relief. The total collected was donated to an organization called Nourish the Children, which will match the donation and send 100 percent of it to help the children affected by the tsunami.
The SOS club, sponsored by teacher Katie Piskule, made posters and collection cups for all classrooms. Students, parents, and teachers contributed money. Sixth graders donated the January proceeds of their weekly Friday candy sales, and the schools also donated proceeds from soda sales at a sock hop.
