Four District 15 Schools Recognized by ISBE, NIU

Four District 15 schools were among 288 Illinois schools to be named to the Illinois Honor Roll by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and Northern Illinois University (NIU). The schools were recognized for their accomplishments in making progress toward or maintaining academic excellence.

Frank C. Whiteley, Marion Jordan, and Pleasant Hill were recognized as “academic excellence schools,” which includes schools where nearly all students consistently meet or exceed standards for at least three years. Criteria for this award level is 90 percent of elementary students meeting or exceeding standards.

Jane Addams made the list of “academic improvement schools,” which includes schools that make significant gains in performance over three years and those that manage to change direction from failure to success. Criteria include an upward trend in test results, a 7.5 point gain in scores above last year or 15 percent over two years.

“We salute these schools and their teachers, parents, and communities for working together to create excellent learning experiences with great outcomes,” said Randy Dunn, state superintendent.

ISBE and NIU partnered to develop the Illinois Honor Roll program to identify and publicize examples of exemplary school achievement. A complete list of award winners and specific information about each of the winning schools is available on the ISBE website (www.isbe.net).
