Carl Sandburg Eighth-grade Basketball Team Wins District 15 Tournament
The Wildcats, the eighth-grade boys basketball team from Carl Sandburg Junior High School, Rolling Meadows, recently won the District 15 tournament—a victory that capped the team’s second consecutive undefeated season.
The win put the Wildcats at a perfect 37-0 record for the boys’ seventh- and eighth-grade seasons. During the two years, the team won two District 15 championships and five tournaments, including two at District 15, two at District 54, and the Carmel High School Invitational.
Team members included Danny Bruno, Clay Voigt, Reggie Engram, Tyler Diers, Alex Weis, Scottie Ahrens, Owen Stiff, Chris Olszewski, Ben Perna, Chris Wasilik, Tommy Koehler, and Trevor Clark. Team managers were Jimmy Isaacs and A.J. Adams.
The Wildcats’ strength was a team defense that gave up just 29 points a game this year. Rebounding leaders were Chris Olszewski and Ben Perna. On the offense, Danny Bruno and Alex Weis were leaders, averaging 14 points per game.
