Thomas Jefferson Celebrates Reading with Winter Storyfest
Students and staff at Thomas Jefferson School in Hoffman Estates will be celebrating the joy of reading during Winter Storyfest 2005, January 25-28.
Planned activities include guest readers throughout the week, winter-related activities such as expository and fictional text activities, readers’ theatre, Web quests, winter poetry activities, snow crystal art projects, and instructions on making fancy paper snowflakes. Students will also have access to a “winter fun” Web page with links to information about polar regions, polar wildlife, winter weather, snow, and the Iditarod sled dog race.
Short book talks will be presented by students during the school’s daily video presentation of “Morning Announcements,” and videos about the Arctic and Antarctica will be aired each morning and afternoon. For the Winter Storyfest, a special “book nook” filled with comfortable chairs, pillows, and beanbags will encourage students to nestle in with a book for some independent reading.
