District 15 Junior High Orchestra Members Perform with Fremd, Palatine High School Orchestras

Orchestra members from District 15 junior high schools had a unique opportunity to perform with the William Fremd High School and Palatine High School orchestras on January 8 at Fremd. Junior high string players from Carl Sandburg, Plum Grove, Walter R. Sundling, and Winston Campus participated.

The event was planned to give the junior high orchestra students a chance to work with the high school students. The junior high students rehearsed in sectionals led by the high school students, then rehearsed with the entire group, approximately 160 string students. Family members joined the musicians for a pizza dinner provided by the high school orchestra, followed by a concert presented by the high school orchestra members. The concert concluded with Robert Frost’s “Theme and Variations” presented by both junior high and high school students.

The special activity was coordinated by Julie A. Quitschau, orchestra director for District 15 junior highs, and Marla Caballero, orchestra director for Palatine and Fremd high schools.
