Junior High Students Win Science Awards
Students from District 15’s four junior high schools were winners in the Illinois Science Fair held May 8 at the University of Illinois, Champaign. The winners and their schools were:
Winston Campus–Junior High
Gold—Suzanne Birner, Olivia Gregorio, Chris Liquin, Shuvani Sanyal and Niki Patel (also winners for best project in the earth science category) and Crystal Wang, (also won for best project in the physics category).
Silver—Glenn Arnold, Jaina Bhayani, Caitlin Carpenter, Adam Farhan (also won a $100 savings bond for outstanding work awarded by the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois) and Heather Quinn.
Walter R. Sunding Junior High School
Gold—David Chen (also received Junior Award from the Office of Naval Research), David Heckelsmiller, Ryan Jozwiak, Dustin Mehrtens, Andrew Prombo and Shobha Topgi (also won best project in the chemistry category and American Chemical Society Award of Honor).
Bronze—Sarah Long.
Plum Grove Junior High School
Gold—Scott Bezek, Michelle Chen, Kristen Hayes (also won best project in the aerospace category), Sarah Lusher, Matt Marando, William Menegas, Rossen Roskhov, Alicia St. Romain, Mike Scholl and Darren Smolen.
Silver—Yasuki Hagiwara, Lauren Hegg, Matthew Jasica.
Bronze—Christi Van Jaarsveld
Carl Sandburg Junior High School
Silver—Matt Gilles
