2004 Volunteer of the Month:
Lisa Burnjas, Winston Campus PTA
Lisa says she just likes to help out, and the assistance she provides at Winston Campus–Elementary is much appreciated. On her own, she volunteered to make copies of instructional materials for the teachers in kindergarten and sixth-grade classes, and she also steps in to take on such assignments as filling in for building staff members so they can get a well-deserved lunch out on Administrative Professionals Day.
“The hours that she saves the teachers are countless, and our appreciation for her is immense,” her nominator said.
She’s also an active member of the PTA, having served as room mom and head room mom in various classrooms for the past seven years. She was co-chair of the “Reflections” committee this year, and she’s also served on the recreation night committee, worked on kindergym, and assisted with Grandparents’ Day.
Lisa is originally from Arlington Heights and attended Rolling Meadows High School. Before her children arrived, she worked at Service Web Offset, handling bookkeeping, production, and customer service. She and her husband Ron are the parents of three children, all Winston Campus students: Ryan, sixth grade; Daniel, first grade; and Theresa, kindergarten.
She feels the most rewarding thing about her efforts is being able to help children. “I like to stay involved,” she says. “Being at the school is a good way to get to know teachers and other parents better.” Lisa’s other interests include walking (she walks more than two miles daily), playing the piano, reading, and exploring the library. She’s also involved in Cub Scouts Pack 281 as a committee chair for the past two years and previously as secretary and assistant den leader.
Lisa will be recognized at the May 12, 2004, Board of Education meeting, to be held at Winston Campus, at 7 p.m.
