District 15 Names Virginia Lake Principal
Peter W. Hannigan, currently building assistant at Jane Addams School, has been named the new principal at Virginia Lake School. He will succeed retiring principal Dr. Gretchen Ludwig at the end of the current school year.
Hannigan joined District. 15 in August 2003. Prior to that, he was a fourth-grade teacher at Gwendolyn Brooks Elementary School in Aurora, in Indian Prairie School District 204, since December 1998. He was summer school building supervisor and taught summer school science and math in the Indian Prairie district. He has been very involved in football, serving as wide receiver/special teams coordinator and as wide receiver/tight end coach for the football program at the College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn. He was also receiver coach for Aurora University, where he was a member of the varsity team from 1994-97 and selected to play in the National Football College All-Star Classic in 1998.
Hannigan holds a B.A. degree in elementary education from Aurora University, where he received the university’s Golden Apple Award. He earned a masters of science in education from Northern Illinois University and is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction from Northern Illinois.
Hannigan and his wife Sara live in Glen Ellyn.
