Paddock Students Collect Clothing for Coat Closet

Fifth- and sixth-grade members of the Energy Club of Stuart R. Paddock School in Palatine, also known as “the Energy and Environment Helpers,” collected more than 300 items during February for donation to the Palatine Township coat closet.

Giving energy conservation a new meaning, the club came up with a theme: “Helping other conserve energy in the cold weather.” Members thought that since many children had receive new clothes during the holidays, February would be an optimum time to collect new and gently used winter outerwear for the coat closet. Paddock families gathered used items and even purchased new coats, scarves and gloves. Club members sorted and bagged items including infant snowsuits, children’s coats of all sizes and adult-sized coats and gloves.
