Four District 15 Schools Recognize Business Partners

Four Community Consolidated School District 15 schools participated in the Northwest Suburban Business Partner Recognition breakfast March 10 to honor area businesses and organizations for their support of the district’s students. The event was sponsored by the Northwest Suburban Education to Careers Partnership.

Carl Sandburg Junior High recognized Northrop Grumman Corporation. The firm’s engineers have volunteered their time for a number of years to assist students with their studies through a math mentoring program. For many, the mentoring makes the difference between passing and failing.

Walter R. Sunding Junior High recognized the Harper College Department of Education. For the past five years, education students from Harper have served as mentors to seventh- and eighth-grade students at Sundling, providing both emotional and academic support.

Lake Louise School recognized Exxon Mobile Corporation for grants that allowed the school to improve its science curriculum by purchasing science videos for the English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) program as well purchasing other books on a variety of subjects for other programs.

Winston Campus honored Allstate Insurance Company. Allstate employees volunteer as mentors to seventh- and eighth-grade students who attend Winston’s after-school homework center. Participating students have demonstrated both improved grades and better attendance.
