March Volunteer of the Month: Jennifer Elkins, Kimball Hill PTA

Volunteering at Kimball Hill School is “coming home” in a sense for Jennifer Elkins. A lifelong resident of Rolling Meadows, she was also a Kimball Hill student, and even sees some of her former teachers at the school occasionally.

“If you want your kids to have a nice place to go to school and have fun things to do, you just make the time to volunteer,” says the busy mother of three. She’s been involved at Kimball Hill since her son Dalton, now a fifth grader, started kindergarten. She’s been a room mom, done kindergym, and been part of the hospitality committee, which she now chairs. This year she’s also chairing the fun fair committee and the membership committee, is volunteer coordinator, and is a member of the room rep committee. Jennifer and her twin daughters, Amanda and Elizabeth, 4-1/2, are at the school so often, she says, that the office staff even knows the names of the girls’ favorite, bring-along stuffed toys. “I think I’m going to start getting my mail sent there,” she jokes.

“(Jennifer) manages these responsibilities with energy and a positive attitude,” her nominator said. “Kimball Hill is fortunate to have her at our school.”

Jennifer attended Rolling Meadows High School and attended the dental hygiene program at Harper College. She and husband Rick, a foreman for a painting and drywalling company, settled in her hometown because, Jennifer says, “I love Rolling Meadows. I’d never live anywhere else!” Her mother, two brothers, and her sister live nearby—in fact, her sister’s family lives just two doors away. She enjoys spending time with family and hosting monthly family dinners. Jennifer, Rick, and their children also travel to Minnesota each summer, where she enjoys fishing, catching frogs, and other “kid stuff” with the kids.
